# Privacy

The short version: the Barrie app has no account, no server, and no analytics — your reminders never leave Apple's ecosystem. This website uses two analytics tools, and payments run through Polar. The details, in plain language:

## The app

- Barrie reads and writes reminders through Apple's EventKit — the same database Reminders.app uses. That data lives on your device and in your iCloud, under Apple's terms. Barrie stores none of it anywhere else and sends none of it to me or anyone.
- There is no account and no sign-in. The trial works without giving anyone your name, email, or card.
- Location reminders use geofences registered with macOS; the opt-in "Nearby" section takes a single location fix when you open the panel. Location is handled on-device by macOS and is never transmitted by Barrie.
- Checking for updates fetches the Sparkle appcast from daveyheuser.com; like any web request, that briefly exposes your IP address and system user agent to that server's logs. Updates are signed and free. No usage data rides along.
- Activating a license sends only your license key to Polar for validation.

## This website

- getbarrie.com is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, so Cloudflare processes requests (as any host does).
- The site loads Google Analytics 4 to measure traffic — pages viewed, rough location, how visitors arrive. Google's handling is described in [Google's privacy policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy).
- The site also loads Snitcher, which tries to identify the company (not the person) behind a visit from its network address. Snitcher's handling is described in [Snitcher's privacy policy](https://www.snitcher.com/privacy-policy).
- The site has no accounts, no forms, and no newsletter, so it never asks you for personal data. Blocking these scripts with a content blocker breaks nothing.

## Buying

Checkout is handled by [Polar](https://polar.sh) as merchant of record. Polar collects what a purchase needs — email address, country, payment details — and emails you the receipt and license key; their handling is described in [Polar's privacy policy](https://polar.sh/legal/privacy). I can see who bought a license (name, email, country) in Polar's dashboard; your card details never reach me.
