# About Barrie

Barrie is a menu bar companion to Apple Reminders for macOS. It is not a separate to-do app: it reads and writes the same reminders database Reminders.app uses, so everything you see or add in Barrie is a real Apple reminder, in your real lists, on all your devices via iCloud. It puts live counts in your menu bar, opens with a global hotkey, and turns plain language like "groceries @Albert Heijn tomorrow 17:00 !!" into a properly dated, located, prioritized reminder.

## Who makes it

Barrie is made by me, [Davey Heuser](https://daveyheuser.com), an independent software designer and developer. It's a one-person product: I design it, build it, answer the support messages, and ship the updates. The quickest way to reach me is a DM on X, [@daveyheuser](https://x.com/daveyheuser) — more ways on the [contact page](https://getbarrie.com/contact).

## Why it exists

I have ADHD. Every to-do app I tried wanted me to move in first: new lists, new syntax, another place to remember to check. I'd migrate, feel on top of things for about a week, then drift back to Apple Reminders, because that's where my phone, my watch, and the shared groceries list already were. So Barrie doesn't replace any of that. It sits on top of Reminders: adding something takes one keystroke, and finishing something is visible, because the count in the menu bar ticks down while the "Done today" list fills up.

## How it's built and sold

- Native macOS app for macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. The Apple Intelligence parsing upgrade needs macOS 26 or later; everything else works without it.
- Free 2-day trial with everything unlocked — no account, no card. After that it's €7.50, once. No subscription.
- Checkout and licensing are handled by [Polar](https://polar.sh) as merchant of record; a license key arrives by email and is activated in the app.
- Updates install in-app via Sparkle, cryptographically signed, and are free.
- No account, no server: your data stays in Apple's Reminders database and your iCloud. See the [privacy page](https://getbarrie.com/privacy).
